The best career for civil engineering Students


You have many options once you complete civil engineering in India. But remember that the main thing about getting a good career in any field required not only knowledge but also need a very good quality of skill and knowledge in practical experience.
" Practice makes a man perfect "

Here listed out some options which can place you in a better position.

 1. Gate: 

You can go to the Gate( Graduate Aptitude Test Engineering ) if you want to do 

M.Tech in Transportation Engineering
M.tech in Structural Engineering 
M.tech in Water resource engineering
M.tech in Geo-Technical engineering 
M.tech in Environmental engineering etc.

2. IES:

 Indian Engineering Services it's a very honourable post in the engineering field.


3.PSU:

 If you are very strong in the technical or technology field then you can apply for PSU's. Nowadays they are mainly dependent on Gate score. So, prepare hard for GATE. Give your best. Some Government departments like the Department of Atomic energy etc conduct their own exams for their recruitment. Follow their advertisements.

4. State government jobs:

Comparatively easy to crack.

Yeah you can go for the top Indian banking exams like

  • SBI PO
  • SBI SO 
  • IBPS PO
  • IBPS SO 
  • RBI Office Assistant   etc exams 
  An interesting fact that nowadays candidates are aspiring for prospective careers in the banking industry. Every year lakhs of candidates appear for different bank exams depending upon the availability of bank vacancies.        

6. Private Jobs:

construction giants like L&T, Tata Projects, SPCL, HCC, etc. Attend their interviews. go their respective website, search for careers option, speak to HR persons or mail them your resume. if luck favours you, you might get a call for attending their interviews.


7. Higher studies: 


You can as well attempt CAT with your engineering degree. If you are fortunate enough. you may get into some IIM.

If you wish to shift to management after civil engineering. You can as well give a thought on construction management/project management programs.

9.National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE) - Mumbai


National Institute of Industrial Engineering is one of the top B-Schools in India, located in Powai near Vihar Lake in Mumbai, India.
It offers several programs like:
Post Graduate Diploma in PROJECT MANAGEMENT(PGDPM)
Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Safety and Environmental Management (PGDM)
Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Management (PGDIM)
These courses are accredited as MBA equivalent by UGC (University Grants Commission)
10.National Institute of Construction Management and Research
Programs offered from Pune, Hyderabad, Goa, and Indore. Visit their website for more details.
NICMAR gives more weight on Managerial aspects of Construction.

11.RICS School of Built Environment, Amity University (UGC Approved)

Set up in early 2013 as an industry-led initiative, it is supported by leading employers & the Ministry of Urban Development.
It offers several programs like:
MBA in Real Estate and Urban Infrastructure,
MBA in Construction Project Management,
MBA in Construction Economics & Quantity Surveying,
MBA in Infrastructure Management etc
12.Global Institute of Construction Management and Research
This institute provides Post Graduate Diploma in some courses (AICTE approved)

13.Maharashtra Institute of Technology - Pune
This institute provides a Post Graduation Diploma in Project & Construction Management.
All are equally good from a career point of view.
Some institutes offer Computer-aided programs for civil engineers. Civil engineers and architects are eligible for this course.
Some more reputed institutions offer similar courses.
7. Higher studies abroad
If you are lucky or scholar student then you can try these exams

  • GRE
  • TOEFL,
  •  IELTS etc etc
8. If you are interested in City planning or town planning, there is an institute in Delhi (School of Planning and Architecture) which offers a post-graduation degree in various disciplines. Even this is a good option.
9. You can even go to Law.
Prefer doing construction law. That will be more helpful if you wish to stay in the Construction field.
You can as well do a full-time course on Arbitration.
If you complete law (full time) after your civil engineering, you can represent any case in the court.
(Not all lawyers understand civil engineering terms. You can take advantage of that)
If you wish to go for Arbitration courses,
Search websites of good law colleges in India.
10. Interior designing is another alternative.
Let me tell you this. Don't worry even if you don't get any of the above,
You can still do some certification courses on different courses available online (For example LEED Certification) or through distance education.
 Believe me, you can enhance your knowledge.
Enlist all the certification courses/ distance education courses you have done in your CV. (Something is better than nothing)
You have many other options. I just enlisted what all came to my mind.
